How the Christmas Dice Game Works

The How to Play page gives the host one clear place to review the supplies, setup, turn order, and ending rules.

Every player brings or receives one wrapped gift, and the group chooses one of the three game pages before anyone rolls.

Players take turns clockwise, roll once, and complete the action shown beside that number. The host can run two or three full rounds or use a 10- to 15-minute timer.

Finishing the current round gives everyone the same number of turns before players keep the gifts they are holding.

Three Gift Exchange Versions

Each rules page uses all six die results, but the actions create a different level of movement. This lets you choose a familiar exchange, a more energetic party version, or a gentler game for children and mixed-age groups.

Classic Roll & Swap

Classic Roll & Swap combines neighbor trades, an across-the-circle trade, a group pass, an unwrap action, and one open-choice swap.

It’s a good all-purpose option when guests are comfortable trading directly with one another.

Opened gifts stay in play, so the action can become more strategic as people see what is available. After the final round, each player keeps the gift currently in hand.

Mix-It-Up Gift Exchange

Mix-It-Up Gift Exchange creates more movement with passes to the right, a two-seat pass to the left, player-selected trades, and a wild choice.

One result also asks players to trade with someone wearing red or green, adding a festive visual cue.

This version suits lively family gatherings, office parties, and larger groups that enjoy frequent changes. When time is called, finish the current round so the last few players do not lose a turn.

Friendly Pass & Swap

Friendly Pass & Swap removes targeted stealing and keeps every gift wrapped until the game ends.

Most rolls move presents between neighbors or send the entire circle in the same direction, while one result lets the player keep the current gift for that turn.

The gentler rules work well for younger children, classroom celebrations, and groups that prefer less competition. Everyone opens together after the final turn, which gives the exchange a shared finish.

Setup and Printing Tips

Print the How to Play page for the host and one rules page for the group.

Place the selected page in the center of the circle, display it on a stand, or make a few copies for a larger room. Only one die is needed for the whole group.

Choose Actual Size or 100% in the print dialog to keep the page proportions correct. Standard printer paper works for one event, while cardstock or a reusable sleeve can help the rules page stay flat and readable through repeated rounds.
