Wrapped gifts can become the center of the party before anyone opens a single box.
This printable left-right Christmas game gives the host three original read-aloud stories that keep presents moving, guests listening, and the exchange lighthearted.
Each story uses clear LEFT, RIGHT, and ACROSS cues. Players follow the directions as the reader moves through the story, then keep the gift in their hands when the final line is read.

Three Christmas Gift Exchange Stories
The three game pages follow the same basic passing format but use different settings and pacing. A host can choose the theme that best matches the group, or print all three and use a different story at separate Christmas events.
The Christmas Tree Mix-Up
The Christmas Tree Mix-Up has a traditional family-party feel. Its story centers on misplaced ornaments, tangled lights, and a wrapped surprise that moves around while everyone gets the tree ready.
The cue rhythm is steady, making this version a comfortable choice for mixed ages or first-time players.
Santa’s Workshop Shuffle
Santa’s Workshop Shuffle brings more energy to the exchange. Elves sort toys, check the sleigh, and rush one last mystery present toward the correct loading station.
Frequent action words create a quicker passing pace that suits classrooms, offices, and lively holiday groups.
The Christmas Cookie Swap
The Christmas Cookie Swap uses a warm neighborhood setting with cookie trays, cocoa, recipe cards, and one traveling plate.
Its calmer rhythm works well for friends, coworkers, neighbors, or multigenerational gatherings that want a cheerful game without too much speed.
Choosing the Best Story
Choose The Christmas Tree Mix-Up when you want a familiar family setting and a moderate pace. It is a good starting point for guests who have never played a passing-story game.
Use Santa’s Workshop Shuffle when the group enjoys faster action and sillier holiday details. The Christmas Cookie Swap is the gentlest option for a relaxed party, a neighborhood gathering, or a mixed-age group.
What’s Included in the PDF
The PDF contains three full-page Christmas game stories plus a personal-use and printing-notes page.
Every game page includes its own title, short directions, complete story, and easy-to-see action words. Because each story stands alone, you only need to print the option you plan to use.
How to Play
Ask every player to bring one wrapped gift within the budget or theme chosen by the host. Seat the group in a circle, give each person one gift, and select a reader. Gifts stay wrapped while the story is being read.
Whenever the reader says LEFT, everyone passes one place left. RIGHT sends each gift one place right. ACROSS sends it to the person opposite. When the story ends, each player keeps the gift currently in their hands.
For an odd-numbered group, decide how ACROSS will work before starting. Players can pass to the person closest to directly opposite, or the host can identify partners in advance. Use the same rule throughout the story so the exchange remains clear.
Printing and Setup Tips
Print the selected game page on white US Letter paper at Actual Size or 100%. Place the reader where everyone can hear, and encourage a steady pace rather than racing through the cues.
Before guests arrive, confirm the gift budget, group size, and ACROSS rule. Lightweight, age-appropriate gifts are best when children are participating. If passing falls behind, the reader can pause after a cue and restart once everyone is ready.
